CONSEQUENCE OF DISOBEDIENCE

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (Genesis 3:7).

Eve believed the lie of Satan. She took of the fruit and ate and gave it to her husband who equally ate of it. With this singular act of disobedience, humanity has challenged the love and authority of God.

Man has joined Satan in his rebellion against God. Although God is love, he could not change his law. He is God of love as well as God of justice. So, Adam and Eve had to face the music, that is, suffer the consequences of their action. What were the consequences of their disobedience?

Adam and Eve could no longer withstand the presence of God. They hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the tress of the garden. Thus, they lost face to face worship and communion with their Maker.

Besides, man began finding excuses for his sin. And Adam blamed Eve and she in turn blamed the serpent for their sin. They did not take responsibility for their sin. This attitude makes it hard for sinners to receive pardon from God.

More so, the Lord cursed the serpent. It would go on its belly and eat dust. Woman would bring forth children in sorrow and would no longer be equal to her husband and her husband shall rule over her.

The ground is cursed for it shall bring forth thorns and thistles and man shall eat in sorrow all the days of his life.

Above all, God drove man out of the Garden of Eden lest he ate from the tree of life and live forever. Man also became mortal and death became the lot of men (Rom. 5:12).

A singular act of disobedience made Adam and Eve lose everything they enjoyed in the Garden of Eden.

God’s standard does not change for God himself changes not.

Disobedience to God’s command brings untold hardship, pain and suffering.

The consequences of sin are unbearable! May the Lord grnt us the Holy Spirit to help us live obediently in Jesus name.
