Engage with bigger accounts in your niche
This is the most important thing you need to do when you get onboard twitter. Don't start by posting too much tweets because no one will see them, instead start by replying other bigger accounts/persons from your niche, make sure your contributions are valuable.
Respond to everyone that engages with you
Weather big or small followers it is important to always respond to tweets/replies, not minding how many followers the person that replies your tweets has. Form connections, answer the questions you get. People actually want to see that there is a human behind the account they re following.
Make sure to give value
If you want to build an audience you need to switch the focus from you to them. Share some resources then respond to the questions you get on them, share tricks and tips and even your work. Tweet about whatever you want but make sure it adds value to your audience.
Quite using hashtags after you gain 1000 followers
Most of the times Hashtags make your tweets look spamming. If you have more than 3 hashtags in your tweets 50% of the people that see those tweets will scroll through. Use at max 2 hashtags until you reach 1k followers. After that drop them
Share your wins/loses with your audience
People love and follow authentic accounts. Be like a real human, share your wins, also share your loses.
- When you get that job. Tweet about it
- When you finish a new project. Tweet about it
- If you had a bad month. Tweet about that also.
Try to be consistent
I have been posting at least once every single day. In the beginning, no one might engage with or even read your tweets. But that doesn't matter anyway. Don't look at your analytics.
Gradually you will gain more traction and once you gain that momentum things will get easier from there onward.
